Mattituck Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Guardrail: Police
He was arrested last week, police say.
MATTITUCK, NY — A Mattituck man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into a guardrail recently, police said.
According to Southold Town police, the incident took place on January 7 at 5:23 p.m. at Middle Road and Westphalia Road.
A Greenport man, 32, reported Thomas Best, 69, striking the guardrail and leaving the scene of the crash, police said.

An officer located his vehicle heading north on Westphalia; the officer conducted a traffic stop and noted that Best was the sole occupant and driver, and that his vehicle matched the description and had extensive front end damage, police said.
Best performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, police said. He was arrested and charged with DWI, and was transported back to Southold Town police headquarters for processing and held for morning arraignment, police said.
