'National Go Skate Day' Celebrated At Greenport Skate Park Friday

Every skater attending the event will receive a free gift, while supplies last.

GREENPORT, NY — Ready, set, skate! The Greenport Skate Park will be hosting a special celebration Friday, June 21, to celebrate "National Go Skate Day."

The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the skate park on Moores Lane.

"This exciting event promises an evening of fun, community spirit, and skateboarding excitement for all ages," said Rena Wilhelm, who has worked tirelessly for years to raise funds to renovate the facility.

The event includes a live performance by special guest DJ Henry Eau, who will be spinning tracks. Every skater attending the event will receive a free gift, while supplies last.

"National Go Skate Day is more than just a day to enjoy skateboarding; it's an opportunity to celebrate our community and recognize the significant role Greenport Skate Park plays in the lives of our kids and young adults. This park is a vital space where they can develop their skills, build friendships, and create lasting memories," Wilhelm said.

She added: "Each event we host allows us to share our mission with visitors and raise awareness about the importance of the Greenport Skate Park. We rely on the support of our community to continue providing this essential recreational space and to foster a positive environment for all."

Recently, after years of dedication and fundraising, Wilhelm, the force behind a dream to breathe new life into the Greenport Skate Park, unveiled new plans for the future and announced that a first fundraising milestone of $100,000 had been met

Next up, the Sound & Skate Festival 2024, "a day-long community gathering that showcases the intersection of art, music, and sport," takes place at the skate park on July 13 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The festival features vendors, live music, skate contest, a live painting showcase and more.
