Oct. 30-31: Halloween Happenings and More on the Marquee
Halloween parades and mandatory trick-or-treating are just a few things to look forward to this weekend on the North Fork.
As your little ones transform into ghouls, robots, princes and princesses, karate kids, and vampires Sunday night for Halloween, here is a rundown of activities gauranteed to fill up your last October weekend. Then the sugar overload begins.
Before trick-or-treat time, be sure to parade your kids around at one of several Halloween parades set for Sunday night. Mattituck's starts at 6:30 p.m. at the firehouse on Pike Street. The parade in Cutchogue starts at 6 p.m. at the Village Green, and the lil' tikes of Greenport kick off their trick-or-treat at 3 p.m in the village.
On Saturday, Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library is also getting into the spirit of things by offering a Halloween candy-making class from 2 to 3 p.m., and San Simeon by the Sound nursing home is holding a costume party for its senior citizens open to all starting at 2:30 p.m.

Saturday is the last day that the Southold Town Waste Transfer Station will take hazardous waste such as chemicals, oil-based paint, pesticides, and other household toxins free-of-charge. The drop-off period lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Gorgeous fall weekends mean more live music at local wineries. Whether you're in costume or not, catch Mambo Loco on Saturday and Jon DiVello on Sunday at Bedell Cellars in Cutchogue. Guitarist Southold Slim and singer Crazy Helen will perform their repertoire of Tin Pan Alley jazz and blues at Clovis Point in Jamesport on Saturday.
The Sly Gerald Band will be performing at Peconic Bay Winery on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m., and the Noble Rotten Trio will take the stage on Sunday. Alan St. John, a noted local keyboard player and songwriter who has toured with rockers like Billy Squier, Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper, will play at Jason's Vineyard in Jamesport from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Also, catch local guitarist and singer Gene Casey perform with drummer Stan Mitchell and fiddle player Russ Seeger 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Old Mill Inn in Mattituck.
And don't forget about the live guitar music and the at Diliberto Winery in Jamesport on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Craving chili? Warm yourself with a hearty bowl for a good cause on Saturday at the North Fork Environmental Council's annual chili night fundraiser at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 online and $45 at the door.
