Police: Greenport Woman Reports $4,300 in Cash and Jewelry Stolen

Village resident says masked man might have taken cash and jewelry from Eighth Street home.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

A 48-year-old Greenport woman reported to Southold Town Police on Feb. 5 that someone broke into her Eighth Street residence sometime between 7:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 and stole $2,300 in cash and $2,000 worth of jewelry, police said. Entry into the home appears to have been made through an unlocked window on the porch, police said. A witness reported to police that he saw an unknown man wearing a purple striped hooded sweatshirt and a purple masquerade mask walking around the driveway of the residence around the time of the reported burglary, police said.
