Shinn Offers Daily Self-Guided Tours

Local vintner Barbara Shinn has announced that self-guided tours are now available at her Mattituck winery / bed and breakfast she runs with her husband, David Page, on Oregon Road.

Markers describing an organic and biodynamic vegetable garden, how vines “turn sunlight into wine," a flock of Japanese Bantam chickens, wind and solar energy, and the winery’s crush pad are just a few stops along the way at — one of the more eclectic operations in Long Island Wine Country.

Tours began April 27 and will be available this spring, summer, and fall, Shinn said.

“It is perfect for a quiet walk through the vineyard,” she said. “Visitors 21 years and older can purchase a glass of wine and do the walk or conduct a tasting in the tasting room before or after.”

The walk is free with an $8 tasting or glass of wine or the purchase of a bottle. People under the age of 21 are free but should be accompanied by an adult.

Shinn said she believes that her vineyard is the first on the North Fork to feature a guided tour such as this and hopes it will help educate tourists and locals alike.

“We just ask that you do not pick the leaves or the fruit,” she said. “If you see some of our vineyard crew working on the vines please allow them to continue working uninterrupted, we are happy to answer any of your questions when you return to the tasting room.”
