According to Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations at the League animal shelter on the North Fork and in Riverhead, Alannah is a "beautiful pit bull mix with a heart as big as her soulful eyes. Sadly, her world was turned upside down — and now she’s searching for a patient, loving home where she can heal and thrive."
She added: "At 2 years old, Alannah is a sensitive girl who takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she’s the most affectionate and devoted companion you could ask for. She finds comfort in the presence of other dogs, so she would do best in a home with a calm, confident canine friend to show her the way. She would thrive in a home with a fenced-in backyard as sometimes walking near cars can be scary for her."

And, League staffers said: "Alannah has a gentle soul, and while she can be shy at first, she blossoms with kindness, routine, and reassurance. She’s already spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and vet-checked, ready to begin her new chapter with the right family."
For those looking for a loyal, loving, and special dog to welcome into their heart and home, the League said Alannah is waiting to meet her new family.
"Could you be the one to give this sweet girl the forever love she deserves?" they asked.
Alannah is located at the League's Riverhead location at 324 Church Lane in Aquebogue, which is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; no appointment needed. For additional information, click here.
