Woman Airlifted After E-Bike Crash On Shelter Island: Police

She crashed into a curb, police say.

SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A woman was seriously injured after crashing her electric bike on Shelter Island Tuesday, police said.

According to Shelter Island Town police, the incident took place at 3:10 p.m.; police and emergency medical services responded to the scene on Route 114.

When officers arrived, they found a female lying on the roadway and being moved by bystanders out of the street, police said. She was exhibiting signs of serious injury, police said.

Shelter Island EMS personnel provided immediate medical assistance to the woman, who was later transported to the Klenawicus airfield, where she was airlifted by a Suffolk County Police Department helicopter to Stony Book University Hospital for advanced medical care, police said.

Police said the woman was riding an e-bike and heading north when she crashed into the curb, causing her to fall. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.

Shelter Island police are investigating and reconstructing the accident, with the case active, authorities said.
