Bonded Kittens Still Searching For Home After Winter Rescue: Northport Kitties Of The Week

The one-year-old siblings survived extreme winter conditions and must be adopted together, Northport Cat Rescue Association said.

NORTHPORT, NY — Luke and Larry are the Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Kitties of the Week. The one-year-old siblings were rescued last winter after surviving severe conditions in a mechanic’s shop.

“Luke and Larry are one-year-old brothers who survived the unthinkable,” said Lora Wild, president of the Northport Cat Rescue Association. “Last winter, they were found huddled in a mechanic’s shop, starving and freezing, chewing on pizza boxes just to stay alive.”

Wild said the pair had a sister who did not survive. “They had a sister with them, but heartbreakingly, she didn’t make it. The boys stayed by her side until help finally came.”

Since then, the brothers have adjusted well in the rescue’s care.

“Larry is the brave lovebug—he leans in for pets and purrs with his whole heart,” Wild said. “Luke is shy at first, but once he trusts you, he melts and trills softly when touched. They’ve been each other’s comfort through every moment of fear and loss.”

The brothers are friendly with other animals.

“They’re wonderful with other cats and even did well living with a dog in foster care,” Wild said. “After everything they’ve endured together, they must stay together.”

They have yet to receive adoption interest.

“They’ve been waiting for so long—without a single application,” Wild said. “It’s heartbreaking, because their happily-ever-after is out there… they just haven’t been seen yet.”

Luke and Larry are currently located at Petco Commack, where they remain available for visitors. The brothers are neutered, have all their vaccinations, are micro-chipped, litter box-trained and FELV/FIV negative, the rescue said.

Anyone interested in meeting Luke and Larry can visit the Northport Cat Rescue website to submit an application, or call 631-606-2631 or email info@northportcatrescue.org.
