
A Northport man was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross a road in Northport shortly before noon on Sunday, police say.
According to authorities, 68-year-old Peter Carroll stepped off the sidewalk in an attempt to cross Fort Salonga Road when he was struck by a 2016 Subaru traveling eastbound at 11:45 a.m.
Northport Rescue transported Carroll to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Subaru, 27-year-old Northport resident James Cherry, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
