Northporter MVP of All-American Game

Cortney Fortunato leads comeback at Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Classic.

Her senior season didn’t end as hoped, but Northport graduate Cortney Fortunato proved she was as good as advertised at the Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Classic Saturday at Towson (Md.) University.

Fortunato, one of the most gifted goal-scorers in Long Island history, was named MVP after scoring four goals and adding four assists to power the North all-stars past the South, 18-16.

The South led 11-9 with 17:36 left in the second half when the North exploded for eight straight goals. Fortunato had two goals and two assists during the run.

The Notre Dame-bound Fortunato, an attacker, was widely considered the top player in her class over the last three seasons.

She was a key contributor on Northport’s 2011 state championship, but couldn’t get the Tigers past Bay Shore the last two years. A six-year star for the Tigers, Fortunato finished 2013 with 82 goals and 36 assists for the county semifinalists.
