'She Always Takes The Extra Step': Centerport Teacher Shoutout

She was my son's 1st grade teacher.

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Mrs. Dowd brings a wealth of experience both as a teacher and as a parent, but I believe her greatest gift is her ability to connect with children on a deep level, easing their worries and giving them effective tools to manage their feelings. She empowers them to speak up for themselves, take accountability for their actions, and learn from their mistakes. Mrs. Dowd consciously creates a calm classroom where all of the children are able to learn because they feel seen, safe and loved.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

Mrs. Dowd’s dedication to her students is unmatched. She meets each child exactly where they are, and makes sure they feel respected and loved. Whether it’s making time to connect with parents to find out how better to support a child, or decorating her classroom to celebrate the kids, or helping a child find their inspiration during a difficult time, she always takes the extra step for the children in her class.
