Vandals Cause $124K In Damages To Crab Meadow Golf Course

Police are looking to identify the person or persons responsible.

Police are looking to identify the person or persons responsible for causing $124,000 in damage at Crab Meadow Golf Course in Northport last month.

According to authorities, the damage took place at four greens at some time between July 30 at 10 p.m. and July 31 at 3 a.m. Three temporary greens were placed at holes 1, 11, and 17, where significant damage occurred.

Town officials say the vandals caused about $124,000 worth of damage. Insurance will cover a portion of the repairs, but the town will be on the hook for a $50,000 deductible, ABC 7 reported.

It will take the town about 4 to 6 weeks to repair the damage.

“It’s a shame that someone would attempt to destroy one of the Town’s great recreational attractions,” Huntington Supervisor Chad Lupinacci said in a press release.

The Town of Huntington is offering a 10 percent discount on all greens fees in response to the vandalism. The discount applies to all greens, excluding the demand-based pricing promotion implemented earlier this year.

“Don’t let them spoil your fun -- I encourage all who enjoy golf to take advantage of our discounted rates while the three greens are repaired," Lupinacci said.

The person or persons responsible are wanted for criminal mischief.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. An anonymous donor who uses the golf course regularly is also offering a $5,000 reward.
