Village Meeting; Suicide Prevention Training for Vets

A look at what's happening today in Northport.

Happy October, Northport. We're in the heart of fall now and it's a great time to be in town. Here's a look at what's happening today.

Soccer, Tennis and Volleyball
The Northport varsity girls soccer team will take on West Islip today on the home turf at 4:30 p.m. At the tennis courts, the girls tennis team will verse Smithtown West. Inside, the boys volleyball team will take on Smithtown East. Go tigers!

Village Board Meeting
A Village Board meeting will take place today at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 224 Main Street, Northport, NY 11768.

Suicide Prevention Training

From 8 a.m. until noon today, the Northport VA Medical Center will hold its annual suicide prevention training for veterans, caregivers, and the community in the facility’s main auditorium (Bldg. 5). Steven Chassman, LCSW, CASAC, of the Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependence, will discuss subintentional suicide and Long Island’s opiate epidemic, with an emphasis on new trends in veteran drug use. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the training begins at 8:30 a.m.  For more details, e-mail Nancy.Olsen@VA.gov or call 261-4400, ext. 2791.
