Young Tabby Found Pregnant In Northport Yard, Needs A Home: Northport Kitties Of The Week

The 1-year-old tabby raised four kittens and is now waiting for her own family, volunteers say.

NORTHPORT, NY — Luna, a beautiful young tabby born in August 2024, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association’s Cat of the Week. She was first spotted in a neighbor’s yard, friendly, hungry, and in need of help, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue.

Soon after she appeared, volunteers learned Luna was pregnant. She went on to give birth to four kittens, all of whom shared her gentle temperament and have since been adopted. “Now it’s Luna’s turn to finally find her forever home,” Wild said.

Luna is described as affectionate and easygoing.

“She is an absolute love,” Wild said. “She has a calm, comforting presence, gives the softest head butts, sits with you, soaks up affection, and even entertains herself with toys. All of our volunteers have fallen in love with her. She’s the kind of cat that makes them all say, ‘If I could keep her, I would.’ She is truly special.”

Once she settles into a new space, Luna becomes confident and social. Wild said she gets along well with other cats and is also comfortable around dogs.

“She doesn’t hide—she truly blooms when she feels safe,” she said.

Luna is currently located at Doggie Don’s in East Northport, where she is waiting to meet her future family. The rescue noted that she would love to be adopted before the holidays.

Northport Cat Rescue Association will hold an adoption event on Saturday, Nov. 29, from 12–4 p.m. at Sweet Arts Candy Store, 105 Main Street, Northport. Luna will be there to meet visitors, along with many of the rescue’s kittens.

Luna is fully vetted, spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, FELV/FIV negative and litter box–trained.

Anyone interested in meeting Luna — or any of the rescue’s available cats — may submit an application on the Northport Cat Rescue website, call 631-606-2631, or email info@northportcatrescue.org.

“Let’s get this beautiful girl home for the holidays,” Wild said.
