Fatal Crash In Nyack Kills Cargo Van Driver
State police said the crash involved a New York State Thruway Wrecker providing traffic control for a disabled vehicle.
NYACK, NY — A crash on northbound I-87 killed the driver of a cargo van Friday, New York State police said.
The crash happened before 7 a.m. between exits 11 and 12, near mile marker 17.6.
According to the preliminary police investigation, a disabled vehicle was on the left shoulder, partially in the left lane. It was being loaded onto a tow truck by Congers Collision and a New York State Thruway Wrecker was providing traffic control. A 2017 Ram ProMaster cargo van rear-ended the Thruway Wrecker at a high rate of speed.

The Wrecker was unoccupied at the time of the crash, while its driver was assisting with the disabled vehicle.
The driver of the Ram cargo van sustained serious injuries and was transported to Nyack Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. No other injuries were reported, police said.

Troopers at the scene were assisted by Troop T's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, Troop F BCI and Collision Reconstruction Unit, as well as Thruway Traffic Safety. The investigation continues.
