Man Tried To Run Over Bystander Who Defended Girlfriend: Police

The fight in a Stony Point parking lot was called in by several people.

STONY POINT, NY — Several people called the Stony Point Police Department at 7:30 p.m. Sunday to report a domestic dispute in a parking lot on North Liberty Drive.

Officers found three people: a man from Manhattan, his girlfriend and a passerby who police said had stopped to help the woman.

The officers obtained several witness statements and video evidence of the incident.

Police said the man had placed his girlfriend in a headlock and hit her in the head and chest. The passerby, carrying a baseball bat, attempted to intervene. The man drove his vehicle at the passerby three times, narrowly missing him. The passerby swung the baseball bat at the oncoming vehicle in self-defense, damaging the windshield.

The woman was uncooperative, police said. She also refused medical attention.

Luis Sanchez was placed under arrest and transported to the Stony Point Police Station for
processing. The 38 -year-old was arraigned at the Stony Point Justice Court on charges of Att. attempted assault, assault and obstruction of governmental administration and sent to the
Rockland County Jail. He will return to court Aug. 27.
