Seven freshmen at Nyack High School received their Girl Scouts Silver Awards at a ceremony in Monroe Sunday.
Sloane Petersen, Hailey Raab, Cayla Coichy, Elise Graham, Katy Jewett, Caileigh Travers and Brianna Roberts earned their awards with projects at local schools and churches.
- Peterson and Roberts worked with younger scouts to clean up the grounds at Liberty Elementary School. They replaced plants that had been damaged during Hurricane Sandy. They also created troop pavers with thumb prints and names of the scouts which were placed in the courtyard with the plants. Peterson and Roberts raised money for their project with a nickel bottle drive and donations from Home Depot and Van Houten Farms.
- Graham and Travers painted and decorated a teen room at First Reformed Church of Nyack. They also helped younger children at the church's bible school. Members of the church donated furniture and funds to aid their project.
- Jewett, a member of the Nyack High School tennis team, built a bench near the tennis courts.
- Coichy and Raab ran a school supply collection at Nyack Middle School, sending the donation to Develop Africa.
