Nyack's Own Mario the Maker Magician Makes Off-Broadway Debut

Nyack-based Mario "the Maker Magician" Marchese has landed his first Off-Broadway run, set to open on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, at SoHo Playhouse in New York City. The limited engagement show will run through December 30th.

Mario was born and raised in Mamaroneck, New York, in Westchester County. But it was Nyack that first sparked his most fervent of artistic inspiration. Having spent time as a teen in Nyack in the late 90s, first at Nyack College, then working at Temptations, Mario fell in love with the whimsical spirit of the village and vowed that if he ever started a family of his own, he'd raise them here.

After many adventures - hitchhiking across the county, herding sheep in Arizona, discovering his passion for the art of magic in Michigan - Mario did finally return to New York, and a few years later, lived up to that promise. For the past 13+ years, Mario, his wife, and now their two children, have called Nyack home. It is also from their home base of Nyack that Mario and family have built their magic business, the livelihood that started out with birthday parties and local events in Nyack and the NYC area and grew into a unique and much-touted touring stage show full of handmade robots, original magic, and punk rock slapstick. The show (and family) recently returned from a month-long acclaimed run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.

Mario and family will get to stay close to their Nyack home for the next two months, spending their weekends performing their much-anticipated run at SoHo Playhouse in nearby Manhattan.
