Police Arrest High-Speed Palisades Parkway Chase Suspect
The unlicensed driver is accused of crashing into a police car in Stony Point before a chase that troopers broke off for safety reasons.
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — New York State police have arrested a driver accused of striking a police car before leading a high-speed chase through Rockland County on May 28.
Joseph S. Salazar, 26 of the Bronx, faces charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, plus misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, endangering the welfare of a child, obstruction of governmental administration and aggravated unlicensed operator. Police actually issued him 106 tickets.
Salazar was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger at 7:38 p.m. May 28 when he fled a traffic stop in Harriman State Park in the town of Stony Point, police said. While fleeing, he struck a New York State Park police vehicle, and headed south on the Palisades Interstate Parkway at high speed. Troopers chased the car for 22 minutes but said they ended the pursuit near Tarrytown for safety reasons.

However, following an extensive investigation, troopers learned that Salazar was having a vehicle repaired at a local business in Sullivan County. Troopers arrested him Wednesday, as he arrived to retrieve his vehicle.
He was transported to Rockland County Jail where he was lodged for pre-arraignment detention, police said.
