Angry Neighbor Threw Explosive Device Next Door: Police
The 38-year-old Croton-on-Hudson resident tossed a commercial display mortar, which is illegal to possess in New York, according to police.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — A feud between neighbors took a disturbing turn when one of those involved made an explosive decision, according to police.
The Croton-on-Hudson Police Department says that a Croton resident was arrested for throwing an explosive device onto his neighbor's property after a dispute.
On Sunday, around 6:48 p.m., officers responded to a home on Van Wyck Street after reports of an explosion.

Once on the scene, officers saw an area where an explosion had taken place from an unknown device. Police say that the explosion damaged several items on the private property.
Detectives later determined that the explosive device was thrown onto the property after a neighbor dispute, police said.

The Westchester County Police Department Bomb Squad was notified in order to identify the explosive, which they found was a 3-inch commercial "display mortar," used to launch fireworks. The device is illegal to possess in New York, according to police,
The suspect who police say caused the explosion was later identified as 38-year-old Shea Kirschbaum. A search warrant was obtained for his home, and no additional explosives were found.
Kirschbaum was arrested and charged with felony first-degree criminal mischief for damaging the property of another person by means of an explosive.
He was arraigned in the Village Justice Court and released on his own recognizance. Kirschbaum is scheduled to return to court on a future date.
