Bronx Suspect Arrested In Connection To Westchester Vehicle Theft

After an investigation by Croton-on-Hudson police into the daylight car theft, the suspect was nabbed in the Bronx with the help of NYPD.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — Police in Westchester have tracked down a car theft suspect in the Bronx with a little help from the neighboring jurisdiction.

The Croton-on-Hudson Police Department says that a Bronx man was arrested in connection to a vehicle theft.

On May 29, around 7:08 p.m., police officers responded to Brook Street after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle. The case was then transferred to the Detective Division for further investigation.

After conducting interviews and canvassing surveillance videos, detectives identified their suspect as 39-year-old Rachesta A. Sumpter, of the Bronx.

With the help of NYPD, Sumpter was captured and taken into custody on May 30. After processing, NYPD notified Croton-on-Hudson police of his arrest, and officers responded to the Bronx to bring Sumpter back to Croton-on-Hudson.

Sumpter was charged with felony third-degree grand larceny. After arraignment in the Village Justice Court, he was released on his own recognizance.
