Carrie E. Tompkins Students Experience Writing Workshop

Students enjoyed engaging with the guests and learned writing skills that can apply to more than just their school assignments.

From Croton Harmon School District: Fourth-graders in Croton-on- Hudson learned how books are published, explored articles from some of the country’s first newspapers, created their own colorful characters and heard from established writers during Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School’s fourth annual Writing Workshop Day.

Organized by teacher Ana Maria Strattner, the day included presentations from two well-known authors, Tommy Greenwald and Lauren Tarshis.

Students then had the opportunity to select two of the workshops offered to engage in, which were led by community members and experts in writing, who ranged from attorneys to publishers.
