Child In Car When Driver Arrested For Felony DWI On Route 9: NYSP

The Peekskill man was found to have a BAC of 0.12 percent, after being arrested in Croton-on-Hudson, according to New York State Troopers.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — A Peekskill man was arrested in Croton-on-Hudson for potentially putting the life of a child at risk, according to state police.

On Sunday, around 3:26 a.m., New York State Police said that troopers from Cortlandt stopped a 2006 Mazda traveling north on Route 9, in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson.

While speaking with the driver, 52-year-old Manuel Daquile Maurquiso, of Peekskill, the troopers noticed signs of intoxication, according to police. He was administered field sobriety tests, which he then failed, according to NYSP.

The troopers found that an 11-year-old child was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Maurquiso was arrested and taken to Cortlandt for processing, where his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was found to be 0.12 percent, police said.

State police said the child was turned over to a sober party.

Maurquiso was charged with felony driving while intoxicated (previous conviction within 10 years), felony driving while intoxicated (operating a motor vehicle with BAC .08 percent or higher, with prior conviction within 10 years), felony aggravated driving while intoxicated (with a child passenger under 16, with prior conviction within 10 years and traffic violations.

Maurquiso was arraigned in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
