After providing pro bono legal defense to indigent defendants, she became Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx, working closely with Hunts Point Alliance for Children. In 2011 she transitioned into private practice and is now a Partner in a law firm that serves as outside legal counsel to large tertiary care centers and medical networks throughout the tri-sate area. Katherin is the co-director of her firms mentoring program and in 2022 received the Kay Crawford Murray Award from the New York State Bar Association- an award devoted to advancing the professional and personal development of women attorneys. More recently, she was selected as a 2023 Super Lawyer.
Katherin has tirelessly served six years as a Trustee on the Ossining School Board, also serving as President. In her spare time she was coordinating Destination Imagination (DI) for Ossining students in 1st through 8th grade. DI is an internationally recognized STEAM enrichment program that fosters team competition through project-based learning. In 2018 she founded the nonprofit Ossining DI Boosters to provide need-based scholarships to students interested in participating in DI. Other community support accolades have included being pro bono legal advisor for Rising Above Boundaries- a project that provides mentoring and enrichment opportunities for at-risk youth and she has even worked on a dog therapy team visiting nursing homes.
Patch: What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?
Nominator: I wholeheartedly endorse Katherin Crossling for the well-deserved honor of being recognized as a community leader. Her unwavering commitment to justice and equality is evident through her tireless efforts in advocating for those who often lack access to legal representation.
Beyond her legal pursuits, Katherin has shown remarkable dedication to excellence in education. She actively engages with students and learners of all ages, providing guidance and support that extends far beyond the classroom. One of Katherin's most notable achievements is her dedication to creating professional pathways for women in her career field. Her mentorship and leadership have paved the way for countless women to excel in their careers, proving that with determination and guidance, gender should never be a hindrance to success. Katherin's work in identifying and transforming young lives by breaking down barriers to opportunity is nothing short of extraordinary. Through her guidance, many have found their voices, overcome obstacles, and achieved remarkable personal and professional growth. I endorse her for this well-deserved honor and believe that her efforts will continue to inspire and benefit our community for years to come.
Katherin is so often a leader in the shadows. She does not serve for accolades but fights for those without a voice. Her crusade for worthy, but often neglected causes, is unwavering and inspirational. She fights the good fights while simultaneously balancing her own professional life, serving as a mother and mentor to her three boys and as a loving partner to Steve. It's not easy...but Katherin doesn't do easy.
