Croton-on-Hudson Postpones Village Operations Due to Snow: Update

Public Works employees will be concentrating on clearing the snow predicted to fall overnight, village officials said.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — All Village Offices will have a delayed opening this morning due to inclement weather and will open at 10:00 AM.

Due to the expected snowfall, Tuesday's scheduled garbage pickup will be postponed until Wednesday, Croton-on-Hudson officials said in an email to residents.

"We apologize for the interruption of the regular collection schedule, but all DPW forces will be concentrating on clearing the predicted snow through Tuesday morning," they said.

If your regularly scheduled garbage collection is Tuesday, please have all of your garbage out on Wednesday morning by 7 AM. If your garbage containers have already been placed at the curb for tomorrow, please bring them back inside.

Croton officials remind residents that no parking is allowed on any village street when there is an accumulation of 2 or more inches of snow. The Village will declare an official end time to each storm, which will be posted on the Village website and social media.

For residents that have no viable off-street parking, parking is available in the following village parking lots for the duration of the storm:

  • Municipal Building Parking Lot
  • Merwin Oak (Holy Name) Parking Lot
  • South Harmon (Benedict Blvd.) Parking Lot

Residents with limited access to off-street parking can apply for a seasonal hardship parking permit. The application is accessible here.

Hardship permit holders must move their vehicles no later than 12 hours after the snow stops. Vehicles must be relocated to off-street locations and may be parked on the Village right-of-way area directly in front of the vehicle owner’s residence, except that vehicles may not be parked on any part of a street, sidewalk, or curb.

Please clear your sidewalk of snow and ice — doing so creates a safer environment for pedestrians and especially children who walk to school. Sidewalks not cleared after the prescribed 12 hours will be cleared by the Village’s contractor and billed to the property owner.

All residents are strongly encouraged to follow the Village's social media account on Facebook, where updates will be posted, as well as through the village E-Alert system. Additionally, any emergency notifications will be sent via the Code Red system.
