HV Forecast: What To Expect From Tropical Cyclone Debby
A hazardous outlook has been issued for Dutchess and Ulster counties.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Debby will affect the region Friday, but the lower Hudson Valley communities that received more than five inches of rain Wednesday should not bear the brunt.
As the storm track trends inland, a flood watch is in effect for the western and central Mohawk Valley and the southern Adirondacks from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service predicts just one to two inches of rain will fall in the New York suburbs of New York City, a little relief for the southern Rockland and Westchester communities hard-hit on Wednesday.

"Even along portions of Interstate 95 and the immediate Atlantic coast in the Northeast, torrential downpours in days prior to Debby's arrival have saturated the ground, so it may not take as much rain to lead to flash flooding and rises on the rivers," AccuWeather Meteorologist Joseph Bauer said.
A hazardous outlook has been issued for the mid-Hudson Valley. Moisture associated with Debby will allow for moderate to locally heavy rainfall across the region Friday into Friday night, with locally higher amounts possible across the eastern Catskills due to upslope flow, the NWS said. Excessive rainfall and runoff may result in ponding of water in urban, low-lying, and other poor-drainage areas as well as possible flash flooding. Some main stem river flooding is possible as runoff drains downstream.

"Saturated soils and breezy conditions will likely blossom power outages from down trees and power lines. Be prepared," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather said on Facebook.
There is additionally a marginal risk for severe weather and a few tornadoes Friday afternoon to evening as the remnant low of Debby makes its nearest approach, the NWS said.
"The heaviest rains associated with Debby and the frontal boundary arrive Friday night," said the folks on Hudson Valley Weather. "A squall line of low capped thunderstorms, gusty winds and heavy rain will push through the region from west to east between 2-7AM Saturday."

"Even though Debby is likely to transition to more of a non-tropical system, it will retain enough tropical characteristics and bands of thunderstorms, especially near and east of the storm center for a time," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist. "Because of this brief tornadoes may be spawned."
The weather will improve from northwest to southeast across the region this weekend, he said.
