Honoring Hudson Valley Veterans
Several events have been planned to honor local veterans.

OSSINING-CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY—Veterans Day honors those who so proudly served our country and the cause of freedom. These proud men and women will be honored in many ways this year—from solemn ceremonies to free buffets to fundraisers for veterans in need. We've assembled a list of some Veteran's Day events we know about. If we missed any events, let us know in the comments below.
Westchester

Phelps Memorial Hospice will be hosting its annual Veterans Breakfast at the Westchester Marriott at 10 a.m. on Nov. 10. To register to attend the event, contact Cornelia Schimert at 914-666-7616 ext. 1235. Seating is limited so Veterans are encouraged to call early.
On or about Nov. 10, participating dentists in the Ninth District Dental Association will provide free dental checkups to their veteran patients. Veterans are encouraged to contact their dentist for free checkups on this day. The Veterans Advisory Committee is seeking feedback on this program. At 2 p.m. on Nov. 11, the Town of Greenburgh will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at DeSanti Plaza located opposite the Hartsdale train station.This event is dedicated to veterans, and current military personnel. There will be a tent with indoor seating. The event will feature military honors, short speeches, and is normally 45 minutes long.
Rye
Undergraduate college students at the New York Institute of Technology, studying Hospitality Management, are hosting a fundraising event as their final project for the American non-profit Team Rubicon and in honor of U.S. veterans. The event will be a hands-on pasta-making class, held at the Apawamis Club in Rye, at 6 p.m. Nov. 7. Team Rubicon is an organization of military veteran volunteers that aid natural disaster areas all over the world. The students need 50 people to attend to receive an A for the project. Montrose
The Veterans’ Day annual ceremony provided by the VFW Post 784 will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Grand View cemetery. It includes a flag presentation, short speech, and the playing of Taps. At 5 p.m. veterans can eat free at Chili's, 1431 Ogden Road, Montrose. Look for the red and white “Montrose Connection” table sign.
New Rochelle
A Veterans Day Ceremony and Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at Memorial Plaza to support local veterans.
Also, the New Rochelle Public Library is displaying a Supreme Sacrifices Exhibit for Veterans Day, which includes an image of a local WWI soldier killed in action, John F. Leaf of New Rochelle. The library is located at 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle.
Somers
Somers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8213 will host a Veterans Day event on Nov. 11. The Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at Somers Town House, followed by a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial. Refreshments will be served at Somers Town House after the ceremony. For more information, contact VFW Post Commander McArdle at 914 582-3025.
Peekskill
The City of Peekskill and The American Legion will be having their 2017 Veterans’ Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at Memorial Park.
Mount Kisco
Auxiliary Unit 136 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 136 will host a Veterans Day event from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Nov. 11 at Mount Kisco American Legion. There will be a brief service at the memorial followed by refreshments at the Legion.
Mount Vernon
A Veterans Day Commemoration ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at St. Paul's Church N.H.S., 897 South Columbus Avenue honoring veterans buried at St. Paul's, with an emphasis on World War I soldiers. Also, enjoy a 1 p.m. interpretive performance of songs and music of the World War I era, by Linda Russell and company.
New Rochelle
A Salute American Veterans Celebration will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Radisson Hotel, One Radisson Plaza, New Rochelle. The celebration, hosted by iPower Global Solutions, will work to raise awareness of the needs facing veterans and their families. Tickets are $100. Money raised is used to provide food and other services for veterans.
Ossining
The Ossining Historical Society Museum will hold an open house for Veteran's Day. Visit the Museum's Military Room and explore many historical artifacts from all wars. The Museum's collection includes original photographs, medals, uniforms and personal memorabilia. Chat with our honored local Veterans. View artwork on display by OUFSD Art Teacher and Veteran Ron Whitehead. When: Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. Where: Ossining Historical Society, 196 Croton Avenue, Ossining. Info: Free. Museum has stairs. Rain or shine. Appropriate for all ages. Light refreshments will be served.
Pleasantville
Pleasantville will be hosting a Veterans' Day Ceremony on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11AM. The event will take place outside the front of Pleasantville High School on Romer Avenue. All are welcomed to attend. Later on Hawthorne Post 112 invites all to attend a Veterans Day Concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Pleasantville High School, 60 Romer Avenue. Free Admission.
White Plains
White Plains will commemorate Veteran’s Day at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at City Hall, 255 Main Street, White Plains.
The ceremony is sponsored by the Mayor’s Memorial and Veteran’s Day Board. For additional information call 914 422-1339
Yorktown
A ceremony honoring those who served will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Town Hall, 363 Underhill Avenue, Yorktown.
Putnam
Brewster
Brewster Veterans Day Ceremony - The American Legion Argonne Post 71 will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Park (formerly Electrazone Field) on Railroad Ave in Brewster. The event will include a guest speaker, the playing of Taps and a rifle detail. Afterwards, attendees are invited back to the Elks Lodge on Rt 22 for refreshments. For more info, call Bill Miller at 845-406-2533. The American Legion Argonne Post 71 holds its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Brewster Elks Club.
Rockland
Nanuet
On Nov. 10 and 11, all service members can enjoy a complimentary entree up to $12.95 by presenting a military ID or proof of service at any BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse location nationwide. Former and active duty military can reserve a pint of BJ’s handcrafted beer (or BJ’s handcrafted soda) throughout the month as part of the restaurant’s Buy a Hero a Beer program. Guests over the age of 21 may contribute $6 toward a pint or soda for a military hero. There are three ways to contribute: online at bjsrestaurants.com/hero, on the BJ’s mobile app, or directly on their restaurant bill. The BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Nanuet is located at 1119 Fashion Drive.

Wappingers Falls
A ceremony honoring veterans past and present for their service starts at 1 p.m. Nov. 11 at Wappinger Town Hall 20 Middlebush Road Wappingers Falls. For more information, call Ralph Holt at 845 297-0720.
Kingston
Mariner's Harbor provides a complimentary buffet for all veterans and current service men and women from 1 to 8 p.m. Nov. 11. $25 per person for non-veterans and $13 for children. The restaurant is located at 1 Broadway. For more information, call 845 340-8051.
