Ossining Man To Chair Rehab Department At New York Medical College
In addition to the endowed professorship, he will be director of rehabilitation medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan.

OSSINING, NY — Robert D. Holland has been appointed the Catherine and Vladislav P. Hinterbuchner Professor and Chair of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York Medical College and director of rehabilitation medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, a major clinical affiliate of NYMC.
Dr. Holland, an Ossining resident, most recently served as medical director of Mount Sinai’s Amsterdam Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Manhattan. Dr. Holland, M.D., M.H.A., will assume his new role Nov. 27.
“Dr. Holland will bring valuable expertise in rehabilitation medicine to his new role and I am confident he will be an exemplary clinician, educator and administrator for students, residents, faculty and patients,” said Neil Schluger, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine and professor of medicine.

“We are excited to have Dr. Holland lead the physical medicine and rehabilitation program at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan,” said Cristina Contreras, MPA, LMSW, FABC, chief executive officer, NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. “His appointment underscores our commitment to enhancing our existing services and delivering the highest level of care to our patients. I’m confident the department will thrive under his leadership."
Dr. Holland also served as the medical director of the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program of the Rockland County Department of Social Services.

Prior to that, he held positions as chief medical officer of the Dr. Susan Smith McKinney Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brooklyn; senior medical director of OrthoNet, LLC, in White Plains; and director of musculoskeletal rehabilitation and attending physician at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw.
He has also been an attending physician at Westchester Medical Center and Staten Island University Hospital. He previously held an academic appointment as assistant professor of clinical rehabilitation at Columbia University.
Dr. Holland also serves as a flight surgeon with the U.S. Air Force Air National Guard, 105th Medical Group. Board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, he also holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Columbia University in New York. He completed an internship at St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Boston Medical Center.
The Hinterbuchner Chair was gifted in 2017 by the estate of Catherine Hinterbuchner, M.D., who had the distinction of being both the first female chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at NYMC and the College's first residency program director in the specialty, as well as Metropolitan's first chief of rehabilitation medicine.
