Sadly Ossining’s Stop and Shop, along with all of them in the region, no longer pay you for bringing in your own reusable bags. Still, many of you told Patch on our Facebook page, it’s the right thing to do so you’ll continue regardless.
Obviously citizens of Croton and Ossining are recycling -- but who do you think does it better? The Village of Ossining wins it with 60 percent of their trash getting recycled; Croton weighs in at 49 percent; the Town of Ossining gets 45 percent. Overall the county rate comes in at 52 percent.
However, the winning Village of Ossining does have one bone to pick with its citizens. "Please do not put your own recyclable trash out on the curb in plastic bags," the village newsletter reads, politely at first but then moving into all caps.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle…Please be aware recyclables are NOT ACCEPTABLE IN PLASTIC BAGS. Place recyclables loose in any container for collection.
The village also wants citizens to note that "TVs and computer monitors contain a tube which contains lead. Both items should not be included with your normal household trash."
