Peekskill Man Killed In Croton Hit-And-Run

Police said the incident happened on Route 9 North just south of the Croton Point Avenue exit.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — A man from New Jersey was accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian on Route 9 in Croton-on-Hudson Sunday.

The Village of Croton on Hudson Police Department said, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, members of the New York State Police and Croton police, fire and EMS departments were sent to a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway on Route 9 North just south of the Croton Point Avenue exit.

The pedestrian, a man later identified as a Peekskill resident, was taken to the Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation by responding officers found that the man was struck by a vehicle that left the scene.

Authorities said that fragments of the unidentified vehicle, including a front grille side cover, were scattered on the roadway.

Within 16 hours of the incident, using pieces of the vehicle that were found in the roadway, the Croton Police Department identified the vehicle and the driver involved in the accident.

Edisson E. Quichimbo-Guayara, 20, of Newark, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, a felony.

The Croton police were assisted by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Accident Investigation Unit.

Route 9 was closed for about five hours while the accident investigation was conducted.
