Places To Cool Off In Ossining, Croton-on-Hudson As Temperatures Soar
The weather forecast is calling for heat index values between 95º F and 104º F this week.
OSSINING/CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — With heat index values between 95º F and 104º F this week in Westchester County, Ossining and Croton-on-Hudson have announced several places to cool off.
Ossining:
The Joseph G. Caputo Community Center, located at 95 Broadway, is available this week as a cooling center during the excessive heat. The days and times the center will be open are:

- Tuesday: 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
- Wednesday (closed in observance of Juneteenth)
- Thursday: 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
- Friday: 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
The Ossining Aquatic Center at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center is available for open swim for a fee of $5 per person for those in the community that are not members on the following days and times:
- Tuesday: noon – 3 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Wednesday (closed in observance of Juneteenth)
- Thursday: noon – 3 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Friday: noon – 3 p.m.
The Spray Pad at Louis Engel Waterfront Park, located at 25 Westerly Road, will be open daily throughout the summer, including Wednesday, June 19, from noon to 7 p.m.

Croton-on-Hudson:
Silver Lake, located at 198 Truesdale Dr., will open two days ahead of schedule on Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will also be open on Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A Swim Permit or Daily Fee is required for entry. A Village Resident/School District Recreation Photo ID is required for entrance to this park.
Croton Point Park Beach, located at 1 Croton Point Ave., will be open from Wednesday, June 19, through Sunday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission fees and parking fees apply.
The Croton Free Library, located at 171 Cleveland Drive, is also available for residents who need a place to cool off during their normal business hours.
In the event of widespread power outages, the village will announce the opening of the Harmon Firehouse at 30 Wayne Street as a cooling center.
