CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — There is some good news in the saga of a massive sewage discharge into the Hudson River, according to a noon update from the Village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Westchester County has provided an update on the repairs to the force main at the Crotonville Pump Station. Repairs have now been completed and the station is operating normally, according to officials.

Swimming can safely resume at Croton Point Park Beach and Philipse Manor Beach Club, and boaters can resume recreational activities in the Hudson River, according to health officials. The Westchester County Department of Health has lifted its Hudson River advisory.

The advisory was lifted today so that ample tidal movement would allow the partially treated sewage that had been released into the river to be adequately diluted, according to the county.

The Department of Environmental Facilities rushed to repair the section of the 24-inch cast iron pipe that broke on Thursday. The segment had to be cut out, replaced and encased in concrete, according to the department. Until the repair was completed, up to one million gallons of partially treated sewage was released into the Hudson River each day.
