Westchester May Craft Grassland Plan For Croton Point: Report
That area of the park is filling up with invasive plants since state funding dried up

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — Westchester officials met Friday at Croton Point Park with local environmentalists who have been trying to get them to stop neglecting the field created at such expense atop the county's old landfill.
The Examiner News reported that the county now acknowledges it's important to maintain the grassland, which is being overrun by invasive plants since state funding dried up. County officials figure they have to assess the situation and come up with a maintenance plan all within the $40,000 annual contribution from the county Soil and Water Conservation District.
The grasslands are important to a wide assortment of birds that migrate between Canada and Central America, Anne Swaim, head of Saw Mill River Audubon, told The Examiner.
