Woman Hit By Pickup Truck, Mystery Good Samaritan Applies Tourniquet
The woman was suffering from severe lower extremity trauma and severe bleeding when first responders arrived.
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — A bystander came to the rescue of a pedestrian struck by a pickup, using a lifesaving tourniquet.
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department, and Emergency Medical Services from Croton and Ossining were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Riverside Avenue where the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, early Tuesday.
First responders found that a woman had been hit by a pickup truck when they arrived. She had severe lower extremity trauma, including severe bleeding.

The fire department says that before the first responders arrived on the scene, a quick-thinking eyewitness applied a makeshift tourniquet to help slow the bleeding.
EMTs and paramedics from Croton-on-Hudson EMS, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department and the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps loaded the injured woman into an ambulance, applied a proper tourniquet and administered other life support measures before taking her to a local trauma center.

The fire department says that while most people know CPR, they also encourage everyone to learn to perform emergency bleeding control, such as "Stop The Bleed" training.
"We aren’t sure who this good Samaritan is, but we applaud their quick thinking today!" the department added.
