11 Long Island Students Named Siemens Regional Finalists
These regional finalists were chosen out of the 491 semifinalists who were announced earlier this week.

Eleven Long Island students are among 101 students nationwide who were announced on Wednesday as regional finalists for the 2017 Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology.
These regional finalists were chosen out of the 491 semifinalists who were announced on Tuesday. There were 56 Long Island high school students named semifinalists.
All regional finalists receive at least $1,000 in scholarship money. Those who place first, in both individual and team regional competitions, will win $3,000 and $6,000, respectively.

- Baokun Gu, Manhasset Senior High School, Manhasset
- Alan Jian, Garden City Senior High School, Garden City
- Austin Lee, Roslyn High School, Roslyn Heights
- Jiachen Lee, Half Hollow Hills High School East, Dix Hills
- Jillian Parker, Half Hollow Hills High School East, Dix Hills
- Rahul Parthasarathy, Syosset High School, Syosset
- Rushikesh Patel, Herricks High School, New Hyde Park
- Vedan Singh, Wheatley School, Old Westbury
- Sahith Vadada, Herricks High School, New Hyde Park
The regional finalists will compete in one of six regional competitions that will be hosted in November. Winners of the regional events will then advance to the National Finals in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 4 to 5, where $500,000 in scholarships will be awarded.

There will be two top prizes (individual and team winners) of $100,000. Second place winners will receive $50,000 and all other finalists will receive $25,000.
