Kim and Zhu will join other finalists at a week-long competition in March, where a " rigorous judging process that goes beyond their own research to encompass other scientific disciplines" will determine the winners of over $1.8 million in awards. The top 10 winners will be announced on March 14.
Only three Long Islanders were named finalists this year. In addition to Kim and Zhu, Miah Christina Margiano from St. Anthony's got the nod.
