Laura Curran Wins Nassau County Executive Democratic Primary

She will face Republican Jack Martins in the general election in November.

Legislator Laura Curran defeated George Maragos in Tuesday’s Nassau County Executive Democratic primary election.

She will face Republican Jack Martins in the general election in November. Polls were open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Curran won with 78.5 percent of the votes. The final results were 23,093 votes for Curran to 6,265 votes for Maragos.

Laura Curran is currently serving her second term as a Democrat Nassau County Legislator, representing Nassau Legislative District 5. Her previous elected office was on the Baldwin School Board for 3 ½ years, including one year as president. In her earlier career, Laura was a reporter for the NY Daily News and NY Post and also taught journalism at SUNY Purchase. Laura earned a BA in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College. She now lives in Baldwin with her husband and three daughters.
