New York Schools Aren't Among The Best (Or Worst) In America, Study Says
A new study says New York schools are just....average.

We're always told that New York State has a good public school system, but how does the quality of these schools compare to schools in other parts of the country?
Apparently New York's public school system is mediocre, according to the WalletHub study, "2017's States With The Best And Worst School Systems."
New York was ranked No. 26 with a total quality/safety score of 52.52. It was ranked right between Rhode Island (No. 25) and Kentucky (No. 27.)

The top state, Massachusetts, finished with a total quality/safety score of 78.16. Second-place New Jersey had a 66.92 score and third-place New Hampshire had a score of 64.65.
WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across several key measures, including dropout rate, math test scores, reading test scores, SAT scores, ACT scores, pupil-teacher ratio, percentage of threatened/injured high school students and bullying-incidence rates.

According to the study, New York had the third highest median ACT score. The Empire State didn't make it in the top five or bottom five in any of the other categories.
How does Long Island compare to the rest of New York? Twenty-two Long Island schools made the Top 100 in the New York State rankings in 2017 by U.S. News & World Report, while 35 Long Island schools made the Top 100 in Niche.com's 2017 statewide public high school rankings.
