Woman Charged With Murder In Fatal Nassau House Fire

CENTRE ISLAND, NY – A 54-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the death of a man killed in a house fire in Centre Island last year.

Jennifer Gross, of Long Beach, was arrested Friday on charges of second degree murder and second degree arson, Nassau Police said.

The fire at 300 Centre Island Drive on Nov. 20, 2018 killed 75-year-old James M. Coppola, who lived in Centre Island and Howard Beach, Queens. Authorities believe an accelerant was used to fuel the fire, which took more eight fire departments more than five hours to extinguish.

Police did not release any other information Friday night. Gross will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Saturday.
