Woman Wakes Up To Find Burglar Standing Over Her: Police

The Long Island man was arrested on Sunday.

A woman woke up to find a burglar leaning over her in Sea Cliff on Sunday morning, police say.

According to authorities, a 55-year-old woman was sleeping in her 8th Avenue home when she woke up to see the face of 35-year-old Sea Cliff resident William Klare at 10:25 a.m.

The woman yelled, which caused Klare to flee out the basement door and head south on Dubois Avenue, police say.

Authorities were notified and located Klare a short time later walking south on Glen Cove Avenue, near Lafayette Avenue. He was placed under arrest without incident.

Klare was charged with second-degree burglary and attempted petty larceny. No proceeds were in his possession.

He was arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
