A 2,000-square-foot rooftop cottage complex on the market for about $4.5 million caught fire late Thursday afternoon.
Dana Drori, an NYC-based model and founding editor of the food blog Aftertastes, snapped a photo of the fire at 203 East 13th Street. (Above.) And Connor Scalleat, a Pace University econ major and entrepreneur, posted dramatic video footage of the flames spreading from cottage to cottage. (Below.)

Reports of a fire at 13th and 3rd were called into the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) at 3:41 p.m., said a spokeswoman. After nearly an hour of battling the flames, the fire was declared “under control.”
“We have no injuries to confirm,” said the FDNY spokeswoman. She could not immediately provide information on structural damages.

So you can fully grasp the gorgeousness of this rooftop cottage paradise — before the fire, at least — here are a bunch of hi-res photos via the Corcoran real-estate group.
Curbed New York reported on Aug. 20 that a mystery buyer had purchased the penthouse-cottage combo just 19 days after it went on the market. ”Both the seller and buyer are very happy,” listing broker Tamir Shemesh told the real-estate site.
Reached by phone on Thursday and asked about the fire, the clerk at Shemesh’s office said only: “Yeah, we’re aware.”
The original property listing has this to say about the rooftop cottage area: “Two spacious terraces flank the second level, the larger featuring an outdoor wood-burning fireplace, retractable awning, and four exposures with views of the Empire State Building.”
