5 Felony Charges for Upper East Side Teen Who Shot Mayor's Personal Cop With BB Gun: Police
New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio was not at Gracie Mansion when the BB shooter struck, police say.

Michael Veritsky, a 19-year-old from Yorkville on the affluent Upper East Side of Manhattan, was arrested for shooting a member of Mayor Bill De Blasio’s security detail on Sunday, police said.
At least one BB pellet struck the female NYPD officer in her back around 7:15 p.m., police said.

She was treated at nearby Lenox Hill Hospital for minor injuries and released.
Police list Veritsky‘s home address as directly across from Gracie Mansion, the mayoral residence and scene of the crime.

“There have been two previous reports of apparent BB/ pellets causing damage to windows in this same area,” the NYPD said in a statement. ”The Mayor was not in the area of Gracie Mansion at the time of this incident.”
By the morning after the BB attack, Veritsky was in police custody. Here are the charges against him, including five felonies, according to police:
- Reckless Endangerment
- Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument (3 counts)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4 (Firearm)
- Criminal Mischief (2 counts)
De Blasio used to live in Park Slope, Brooklyn, but moved to Gracie Mansion on the Upper East Side when he was elected mayor.
