One Barbecue Spot Leaves Gowanus, Another Moves In

BROOKLYN, NY — At the end of 2021, at the guidance of "the universe," a long-running Brooklyn barbecue spot relocated from the border of Park Slope and Gowanus to Massachusetts.

"The universe attracted us to Longmeadow," said Fletcher's BBQ, which ended its ten-year run on Third Avenue near Eighth Street in December, and is planning to open shop "late fall" at a former Italian specialty store.

As of this month, though, Mighty Quinn's BBQ is set to open in the old Fletcher's spot, marking the first Brooklyn outpost for the international chain, the co-founder and co-CEO, Micha Magid, confirmed with Patch.

Magid said that the owner of Fletcher's gave him a call when he left Brooklyn, and the Mighty Quinn's CEO jumped at the opportunity to keep the pits going in Gowanus.

Since launching in 2012, Mighty Quinn's is now serving barbecue across Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, New Jersey and Dubai, with plans for a larger nationwide expansion not often seen in the world of barbecue.

"There aren't a lot of national bbq chains," Magid told Forbes in an article detailing Mighty Quinn's atypical barbecue expansion plans."Don't tell anyone, but we see a huge opportunity."

News of Mighty Quinn's takeover of Fletcher's — announced by the former joint on its Instagram page — was largely met with excitement, including by the two eateries.

"Smokin’ news: Barbecue will continue in our old Brooklyn location! I’m thrilled to share that Mighty Quinn's will be taking over Fletcher’s trusty pits to bring their own top-notch barbecue to Gowanus," Fletcher's wrote. "High-five to more bbq! Woohoo!!!"

"Life is just better with more BBQ. Can't wait," Mighty Quinn's commented with a fire emoji.

Exact details of Mighty Quinn's Brooklyn eatery, including its opening date and hours, haven't been announced yet.
