911 Caller Sends Firefighters To Park Slope Cookout

Where there's smoke, there's barbecue.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Firefighters who rushed to quell flames in a Park Slope school found only the savory aroma of a nearby cookout, according to authorities and social media posts.

A 911 caller sent the FDNY to Fifth Avenue and Third Street about 9:40 p.m. Monday night, where neighbors reported on Citizen a "smoke condition in school," according to a spokesperson and the social media site.

The nearest school appears to be M.S. 51 William Alexander, on Fifth Avenue and Fourth Street.

The FDNY wouldn't confirm why the firefighters were called, but said they did not find smoke or fire, only the smell of nearby barbecue.

Firefighters left the area less than ten minutes later, the spokesperson said.
