78 Firefighters Battle NYCHA Complex Blaze Near Park Slope: FDNY

Smoke and flames billowed out of the NYCHA complex Tuesday afternoon as 78 fire fighters battled a blaze in the 709-unit tower, videos show.

BROOKLYN, NY — Nearly 80 firefighters battled a blaze at a Brooklyn NYCHA apartment Tuesday afternoon as smoke and flames billowed out of the tower.

The fire broke out shortly before noon on the 12th floor of a 21-story tower at 272 Wyckoff Street, a building at the Wyckoff Gardens NYCHA complex, located near the corner of Third Avenue, according to the FDNY.

Videos uploaded to Citizen during the blaze show thick smoke and flames billowing out of the middle of the large apartment complex.

All told, 78 firefighters from 20 units rushed to the building and got the blaze under control by 12:20 p.m., according to the FDNY.

No one was injured in the blaze, fire officials said after the blaze was contained.
