Blue Bottle Coffee Opens Newest Brooklyn Location in Park Slope

Anyone interested in single-origin drip coffee served along with liege waffles?

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Oakland-based Blue Bottle Coffee opened its eighth location in New York — and its third in Brooklyn — Thursday morning in sunny, sleepy Park Slope.

The new coffee shop, located at 203 7th Ave. in Park Slope, is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day of the week, and is already fully staffed, according to Nicholas Haughton, the company's regional director of retail.

Haughton said Blue Bottle only sells coffee within 48 hours of roasting it, and grinds its beans fresh for every order. It directly sources its coffee from around the world, he said, including countries in Central America and Africa.

Blue Bottle also prizes its dedication to "sustainability," Haughton said, which plays out, among other things, in its re-use of cycled-out beans (used for some cold-drip coffee options) and its compost-friendly paper coffee bags.

The business is currently serving a range of espressos, teas and coffees, including single-origin drip drinks called the "Ethiopia" and "El Salvador."

The breakfast menu includes yeast-based liege waffles prepared with a butter coating that caramelizes during cooking, steel cut oatmeal, and toast served with almond butter, grape jam and sea salt. (Haughton said the location also plans to start serving toast with a goat cheese and tomato jam.)

A ham and cheddar cheese brioche is on the menu, served on bread from the Sullivan Street Bakery, while an arugula and mozzarella focaccia sandwich is in the works.

Haughton said other menu items could be added as Blue Bottle hears more about what its customers want.
