"OK, go back to seventh period," one teacher said, to a round of groans.

John Jay is located at 237 7th Ave. between 4th and 5th streets.
Sirens blared through the neighborhood Thursday afternoon. A teacher directing traffic at the scene called the situation a "bomb scare," and said students were sent over to 6th Avenue on school buses while police searched their campus.
