PARK SLOPE, NY — Brooklyn’s Central Library launched its Vinyl Collection Kickoff Celebration Tuesday at 11 a.m. with live performances with a deejay and a band.

With vinyl records making such a big comeback, the library is allowing its members to borrow three records at a time for three weeks, according to Brooklyn Public Library spokeswoman Fritzi Bodenheimer.

Earlier this year, it was reported that vinyl records outsell CDs, according to The Manual, a men’s culture news site.

Bodenheimer says the collection at the library at the event is the brainchild of the Central Library’s manager and librarian Christine Schonhart.

The library is located at 10 Grand Army Plaza.

“We are going to loan out records … like a book,” Bodenheimer told Patch. “We have instructions for people who have never had a record player before. We are really excited.”

The collection has a variety of genres including hip hop, showtunes, country music and pop, to name a few, according to the spokeswoman.

“We have something for everyone,” said Bodenheimer. “Also at the library you can borrow a musical instrument, which a lot of people don’t know about. You can also use your library card to reserve our recording studio.”

People can also take out music sheet scores, added Bodenheimer.

“We have 17,000 items of musical scores,” said Bodenheimer. “We think the vinyl collection will be a nice complement to the physical collections we already offer.”

Performing at the launch are DJ AG and Brooklyn-based band Daisy the Great.
