Investigators believe the attack may have been a mugging.
“It’s unclear if he knew them or not, because we can’t speak to him or them,” a police spokesman told Patch. However, he said the NYPD is considering the attack a ”possible attempted robbery” targeting his ”personal items.”
The five suspects, caught on surveillance camera, are said to have repeatedly kicked and punched their victim in what is now being considered a homicide.
