When police arrived to the lake on a 911 call, they say they “observed a 47-year-old male who was unconscious and unresponsive with no visible injuries or trauma to the body.”

Khalid was declared dead at the scene.

“The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing,” says an NYPD statement.

New York Daily News reporter Andy Mai said on Twitter that witnesses at the scene told him two female kayakers were the first to discover Khalid’s body on Wednesday.
